Little girls + white dresses - so much to love!
Some of my fondest, and earliest, memories of the holiday season involve wearing a gorgeous, brand new white dress on Christmas Day. They were usually made by my clever mum, constructed perfectly with a lot of love, but they were never overly fussy. Just white, simple and beautiful.
These memories are part of the reason that I can't go past white dresses for my own girls, but it also helps that they make them look so angelic - even when their behaviour is anything but! I'm certain that it's easier to be kinder and more patient with your children when they are looking their most sweet and innocent.
And as someone pointed out to me recently (I think it might have been the gorgeous Natalie from The Indigo Crew), yes, they can get messy easily, but are also very easy to clean - no fretting about soaking prints or colours and having them bleed or fade.
Here are some of my favourite white (and almost white) Christmas Day dresses for toddlers and little girls:
Elegantly simple, this dress is a straight fit with ruffles on the collar and around the sleeves, embroidered with pretty navy blue thread. And if you like this one, Buckets and Spades have a lovely collection of Chloe dresses - they might be pricey but boy, they are lovely!
Country Road are killing it with gorgeous dresses for girls this Summer, and this one is no exception. If you know my designs, you'll know Im a sucker for a cute back (all the better for watching your girls as they are deep in concentration, playing with their Christmas loot), this dress delivers cute back and more. Also available in pink.
Gorgeous woven dress with a tie waist with tassels. In a soft cotton voile, with neon dots all over - because Christmas is a party, after all!
This is my favourite piece from my Summer collection. It is so easy to wash and wear, and it is one of those dresses that is perfect for a walk along the sand, or a big old fancy Christmas do. It has a double layer skirt of swiss dot, which is gorgeously light and airy, and a bodice made comfortable by elastic ruching at the back, and an elastic waist. I'm a firm believer in comfortable kids clothes - kids can get cranky if they're uncomfortable, and noone wants cranky kids at Christmas! Oh, and like I said, I just love a cute back.
I don't think you can really go wrong with Coco & Ginger for an Australian summer (or any Summer for that matter). So pretty, so airy, so lovely!
If a larger price tag doesn't bother you (and hey, Christmas is a special occasion) then Tutu Du Monde have such a great selection. Always. I bought one of their tutus for my daughter to wear at our wedding, and treated it with kid gloves at the start of the day. Then she hopped on an elephant with us (Thailand wedding), went wading in the ocean in it and then partied the night away. Until at least 7pm.
Since then the kid gloves have come off and she wore it non-stop for about 6 months, over everything. And now it has been passed to daughter no.2, who treats it just as badly, and you know what? It still looks perfect. A whole lot better than the $15 knock offs we purchased from another 'label'.
Please do let me know if you can recommend any others!
